Sorcha O'Raghallaigh is an Irish designer celebrated for her unique, bespoke creations.
With a love of handmade craft and ornamental detailing, her designs are grand poetic gestures, imbued with a sense of ceremony. Sorcha blurs the parameters between art and fashion, an approach that has garnered her an elite following; her clothes have been worn by Beyoncé, Madonna, Maisie Williams, Kate Moss, Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue, M.I.A, Grimes, Florence Welch and Kiesza.
The designer is deeply invested in the “quality, history and passing on of a handmade skill from one person to another”, a fact reflected in the motifs, symbolism and iconography that characterise her unmistakable aesthetic.
Born in County Offaly, Ireland, where she grew up strongly influenced by her mother’s innate sense of style, Sorcha moved to London to specialise in fashion design at the internationally renowned Central Saint Martins. She interned at both John Galliano in Paris and Diane Von Furstenberg in New York, before graduating in 2010 to critical acclaim.
Her designs have been featured in a slew of high-profile publications including British Vogue, Vogue Italia, LOVE Magazine, W, Dazed and worn by Beyoncé on the cover of Interview Germany.
Sorcha has been tapped by high-end retailers Selfridges, Brown Thomas and Machine-A to create otherwordly, romantic installations, while her clothes have also been stocked in trendsetting stores such as Joyce in Hong Kong and H. Lorenzo in Los Angeles.
In keeping with the art-fashion codes that form the basis of her designs, she collaborated with artist Sookoon Ang to create an installation for Art Week in Singapore 2015
A gifted illustrator, Sorcha also staged her a solo exhibition of her illustrations in Dublin’s Monster Truck Gallery, in 2007.
With some pieces taking up to three months to create by hand, Sorcha's laborious attention to detail means staying true to her craft and her singular vision, producing one-of-a-kind and limited edition designs-a welcome reprieve in the current climate of disposable fast-fashion.
Her work is currently exhibited at Inside Arc at London's Fashion Space Gallery, as part of an exclusive line-up of rare archival pieces that also includes designers Alexander McQueen, Givenchy and John Galliano.
As well as running her Brand from her Dublin studio Sorcha has spent time in Italy consulting for high end Luxury brands.
